Well, well, well...after all the sweat and glitter, I can finally reflect on the amazing exhibition Alice Stribling and I put together at 111 Minna Gallery; "Pin it Up Babycakes". We had a vision of bringing two counter-culture world's together; the low brow art world and neo-burlesque scene, and celebrate our mutual love for pin up inspired art. What we found was that, for all of our thought and planning, the love, support and overwhelming number of people that came out to the opening was something even Alice and I couldn't have predicted.
We were able to unleash some of the raw, un-censored, and naughty fun that can only come from Burlesque performances to the normally tame experience of an art reception which definitely highlighted the uniquely gorgeous pin up art work in the show.
Some unexpected pleasant surprises really made the night even more special, like when a local TV crew showed up before the opening and interviewed Gabe Scott, the curator at 111 Minna Gallery and did a feature about our show on the weekly show on Channel 11, "Inside City Limits" which aired on February 11th.
Our burlesque performers were absolutely amazing, and the room was filled wall to wall with people to watch the show. I would like to say a special thank you to all of our lovely performers, Sparkly Devil, Dottie Lux, Sassy Hotbuns, Bombshell Betty, Bombshell Betty's Burlesqueteers, Thee Merry Widows, Fromagique and the amazing show stopping talents of our super sassy MC Miss Kitten on the Keys! And of course I performed too, as my burlesque alter-ego, Tinky Sparkle. I had a total blast, and I would do it all again!
And of course none of the performances wouldn't have been possible with out our sponsor, Doll House Bettie Lingerie!
We had such an overwhelmingly positive response to the show from press, and people blogging that I have to share;
- Miss Liz Abinante from BitchBuzz wrote a fantastic review of the show which you can see here:
Alice and I are so happy that the ladies at BitchBuzz were excited about our show, and one of their talented writer's, Kate Kotler interviewed us and wrote an amazing article about why we did the show which you can check out on this link:
I could go on an on about all the awesome responses we got but there are too many to mention, so if you want to see any of the blogs and photo's please check out the links below:
